We are honoured to share this exhibit with you. Guided by the direction of incredible survivors, the Journey Project (Newfoundland) aimed to create a supportive environment where participants could share a piece of their survivor story in a way that was safe, intentional, and chosen by them.
The theme of this year's exhibit is ‘Visions of Justice’ where contributing photographers have created pieces that reflect on the concept of justice and what it has meant for them throughout their journey.
Participants were encouraged to attend a series of free workshops developed and delivered by local photographers. Photos were submitted and each participant got to choose their own title, what personal information they wanted to share, and what context – if any – that they wanted to give.
While there are many common experiences, each survivor creates their own unique path. Through each individual journey, there may be moments of unspeakable loss and incredible strength, of solitary pain and community healing, of individual anger and personal empowerment. Each person was encouraged to express themselves in a way that was meaningful and inspiring to them.
We hope this project fosters creativity, community, and support for survivors of sexual violence.
